MPs vote to recognise far-left PVDA as a national party

The far-left party PVDA is to be given 1.6 million euro in public funding for the votes it gained in Flanders in the 2014 federal election. As it only has two Francophone MPs it funding had been calculated based on its number of votes in Wallonia and Brussels. However, the party says that as it is a national party its funding should be based on its number of votes in Belgium as a whole. On Thursday night a majority of federal MP agreed that this should be done. Only the Flemish liberals and the Flemish nationalists voted against.
