KRC Genk victorious against a determined AA Gent

The league-leaders KRC Genk should think themselves lucky that their opponents on Saturday evening AA Gent were not awarded a penalty for hands inside the box. In what was very much a game of varied performances both from the teams on the pitch and the match officials.

Genk took the lead thanks to a Ruslan Malinovskiy (photo above) penalty (awarded for hand ball) on 43 minutes. The Ukrainian goal-getter scored a second goal 2 minutes later to make for a half time score of 2-0 to KRC Genk.

AA Gent scored on 87 minutes and the Buffaloes went hell for leather to try and salvage a point. However, Malinovskiy’s sending off in injury time mean that the game was stopped for a couple of minutes, breaking Gent’s flow. KRC Genk remain top of Play-off I with 38 points. AA Gent 6th and last with 25 points.
