A convincing win for Club Brugge, an own goal an suspension for Vanheusden

In the last games in day 3 of this season’s Play-off I competition Club Brugge enjoyed a convincing 4-0 home win against Standard de Liège. The match was especially disappointing for the 19-year-old Standard defender. Not only did her score an own goal that put Club Brugge 1-0 up, but he also received a yellow card which means that he will miss Standard’s home game against RSC Anderlecht on Friday evening.

Vanheusden’s own goal on 22 minutes opened the scoring for Club Brugge. As if that wasn’t bad enough for Standard Siebe Schrijvers put Club Brugge two-up just 2 minutes later. Denis’ goal on 39 minutes made for a half time score of 3-0 in Club Brugge’s favour. In the recent past Standard have come back from a three-goal deficit, but could they do it against an on-form Club Brugge playing before an enthusiastic home crowd? The answer was clearly no.

Club Brugge continued to dominate in the second half. However fans had to wait until the 80th minute of the game for a further goal. Wesley Moraes made it 4-0 to Club and it was over and out for Standard.

After 3 games Club Brugge have 37 points, 1 point less than the league leaders Racing Genk who they play on Sunday. Standard de Liège remain 3rd with 33 points.
