Genk opened the scoring on 13 minutes through Leandro Trossard. Club Brugge’s equaliser came out of the blue. Vormer was able to provoke a penalty and Vanaken converted to make it 1-1 after 35 minutes of play. On the stroke of half time Club Brugge saw a Dewaest goal disallowed for off-side.
Genk’s second goal of the game came from the penalty spot. The penalty was award for hands on the part of Mechele. However, whether or not this was the case is open to debate. Malinovskiy converted the spot-kick and it was 2-1 to Genk on 55 minutes.
Samatta put the final nail into Club Brugge’s coffin on 80 minutes. Genk were 3-1 up, a result that was to be the final score. With 6 games left KRC Genk lead Play-off I with 41 points. Club Brugge are second with 37 points.
