The successor of the Belgica will be baptised Belgica II

The new Belgian ship to conduct scientific research at sea will be called Belgica II. The pupils of the secondary school in Liège who had proposed the winning name, were invited for a day trip on the present vessel in the presence of Science Minister Sophie Wilmès. The old Belgica will be replaced after 35 years of service, 900,000 kilometres at sea and over 1,000 scientific expeditions. Its successor will be ready by the end of next year. The vessel costs around 54 million euros.
