As part of their election campaign, the Flemish socialists made a big chain of 5.278 chairs, to symbolise the number of youngsters waiting to receive mental care. The action was staged along the coast, between Ostend and Bredene. Over 5,000 youths are in a difficult situation at home or need mental help, but have been put on a waiting list because of a lack of capacity. The SP.A says they will not join a government unless this type of care has been guaranteed. The socialists want to invest 1.6 billion in the care sector in the next 5-year-term.
