More women elected to the Flemish Parliament
47.6% of the MPs 124 elected to the Flemish Parliament on Sunday are women. A total of 59 women have been elected to serve as Members of the Flemish Parliament. This is 4 more than was the case at the regional elections in 2014. The far-right Vlaams Belang has the lowest percentage of female Flemish MPs.
The Flemish nationalists (45.7%) and the socialists are the only two other parties that have less than 50% women MPs in the newly elected Flemish Parliament.
The Christian democrats and liberals both now have more women than men representing them in the Flemish Parliament. The liberal Group is made up of 9 women and 6 men, while the Christian democrat group is made up of 10 women and 9 men.
The greens and then far-left PVDA both have the same number of women as men elected to the Flemish Parliament.
