Life guards will be on hand at 5 of our coast resorts this weekend

There is good news for those of you that want to take a refreshing dip in the sea this coming weekend. Life guards will be on hand to ensure that you can do so safely at five of the coastal resorts along the West Flemish coast. The life guards will be stationed on beaches at Koksijde, Ostend, De Haan, Blankenberge and Knokke-Heist.

With warm sunny weather forecast for the weekend many tens of thousands of day trippers are expected to flock to the beaches of West Flanders. Some of those will no doubt want to cool off with a swim in the North Sea.  Those wishing to take the plunge will be able to do so in safety at Koksijde, Ostend, De Haan, Blankenberge and Knokke-Heist. While temperatures on land are forecast to reach the mid-20’s, sea temperatures will be around 10°C cooler at 15°C.

On Friday morning one swimmer told VRT Radio 2 West Flanders “Now it’s a still bit cold, but once you’re in the water it’s quite alright.

In another 5 resorts, De Panne, Nieuwpoort, Middelkerke, Bredene and Zeebrugge there are currently no life guards. There life guards start work for the summer season from the weekend of 15 and 16 June.
