Federer downs Goffin to claim 10th Halle crown

Belgium's David Goffin has not been able to stop Roger Federer in his quest for a 10th title in the Halle tennis tournament. The Swiss tennis star took it 7-6 (7/2), 6-1 after a tense first set. "We are both ready for Wimbledon", Goffin said.

37-year-old Federer had started as the favourite, as the world's number 3. Goffin has tumbled back to 33rd place after his poor 2018. "The opening set was very intense. I had my chances (at 2-2 and 0-40) but you don't get a lot of them against a player like Roger, and you need to take them", Goffin looked back on the grass court match in Halle, Germany.

"Roger played very well in the second set. Het managed an early break and then he was gone. I think it has been a good week, for both of us, and we are both ready for Wimbledon."

Meanwhile, Federer clinched his 10th title in Halle in 13 finals, to bring his career total to 102 ATP titles - just 7 less than Jimmy Connors' 109 victories. "I know David's qualities. He is a super player and a nicve guy. We need players like him on the circuit and I wish he can return to the top-10."
