First online Westvleteren sale is huge success

The renowned Westvleteren trappist beer has been sold online for the first time. It was a huge success - the new stock was sold out in just two hours - but the monks do not intend to increase production.

The Saint Sixtus Abbey in Westvleteren (West Flanders) had a successful first online sale of its famous beer. After two test sessions last week, beer lovers had the possibility to order the beer online. Buyers needed to have registered using the number plate of their car. The new method replaces the old one, under which beer lovers had to make a classical phone call in certain time frames. Fraud will be reduced to a minimum under the new method, it is said.

The whole stock was sold in just two hours, but the abbey has announced production levels will remain the same. There will be two sales each month, with the next one coming up on 10 July, between 4PM and 8PM. If you want to purchase the famous Belgian beer, make sure to register beforehand.
