Marriage proposal via Tour de France!
Some people will go to extraordinary lengths to profess their love. On Sunday Pieter seized on the opportunity afforded by the passage of the Tour de France to get his proposal to his beloved Jessica out to a wider audience.
“Jessy, will you marry me?” were the words that Pieter (34) wrote on a giant banner that covered a large part of a school playground. The slogan was so big it disturbed coverage of the cycling race as it passed the Flemish village of Tollembeek (Flemish Brabant). For a while the camera crew covering the race was distracted from the riders and flashed images of Pieter’s proposal to viewers across the globe.
The method of the proposal took Jessica by surprise: “At first I hadn’t cottoned on. Our friends wanted to rewind coverage and then I saw it. Only when Pieter dropped to his knees did I know it was for real. I said ‘Yes’.”
