Train hits car at level crossing: car zigzagged around half barriers, four injured

Zele (East Flanders) was the scene of a heavy accident this morning. A train hit a car at a level crossing and left two of the four passengers in a critical condition. The two other victims sustained light and heavy injuries respectively.

The accident happened around 7 in the morning. While it was unclear at first how the accident could happen, it turned out that the car zigzagged around the half barriers at the level crossing. Moreover, the 20-year-old driver apparently had no driver's license. The man itself only sustained light injuries and was taken in for questioning.

One passenger is still in a life-threatening condition. The two others were heavily injured, but their condition is said to be stable.
