Disruption to metro services on lines 2 and 6 next weekend

The Brussels public transport company MIVB has announced that there will be no services on Metro lines 2 and 6 between the IJzer and Elisabeth metro stations on 27 and 28 July. Services are being suspended due to the ongoing roadworks in the Leopold II road tunnel that is adjacent to the metro tunnel.  MIVB will provide a replacement bus service.

The Leopold II road tunnel is closed all summer for renovation work. During the weekend work will be carried out to construct new emergency exits and this necessitates the closure of the metro.

The work will be carried out directly above the metro tunnel. In order to ensure passenger safety metro services will be suspended as a precautionary measure.

During the weekend MIVB will use the closure to carry out signalling work at the Elisabeth metro station.

A replacement bus service will be provided between Ijzer and Elisabeth. Bus routes 13 (Simonis – UZ Brussel) and 87 (Simonis – Beekkant) with start and terminate at IJzer Metro Station on 27 and 28 July.
