Mikey Peeters’ killer added to on Most Wanted List

25-year-old Chechen that murdered a teenager in Bruges (West Flanders) in 2014 has been added to the Federal Police Most Wanted List. Suleyman Betelguiriev murdered 19-year-old Mikey Peeters on 30 May 2014. He has now become the 20th name on the list of Belgium’s most wanted criminals.

Suyleman Betelguiriev stabbed Mikey Peeters six times after an argument. The West Flemish teenager died of his injuries. Shortly after the murder Suylemen Betelguiriev fled to his native Chechenia. Belgian detectives believe that he is still there.

On 1 February this year Suylemen Betelguiriev was convicted in his absence of murder and was sentenced to 30 years imprisonment. The jury also found his accomplice Steven Van Geel (26) guilty and he was given an 8-year-prison sentence.

The Federal Police Most Wanted List lists the most wanted fugitives from Belgian justice. The Kurdish activist Fehriye Erdal is on the list as is the Antwerp IS terrorist Hicham Chaib.

Since its establishment in 2016 the list has been a great success with 11 of the fugitives that have appeared on it having been detained.
