Brussels parks closed from 2pm on Friday

Forecasts of thunder stroms with high winds and heavy rain have led the regional authority in Brussels to close the park that it manages from 2pm on Friday. The parks will remain closed until at least Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, the parks and cemeteries that are managed by the City of Brussels have been closed to the public since 12 noon on Friday. A number of other Brussels municipality are also closing their parks as precautionary measure.

The park closures have come as the Royal Meteorological Institute (KMI) warn of unstable weather conditions with the possibility of storms today and tomorrow. Heavy localised downpours are forecast with gust of wind reaching 80 km/h. This could lead to branches breaking off and falling to the ground in parks.

The parks won’t reopen until Sunday morning at the earliest after an inspection.
