It's a Code Orange: avoid all road travel

The Belgian met office has issued a Code Orange alert for this afternoon, evening and night.  The weathermen and women expect thundery showers that may be pretty violent in places. Eastern Belgium will bear the brunt of the bad weather with buckets full of rain.

Rain showers have already reached Brussels from southern parts.  Thundery weather too is on the way.  Up to 50 litres of rainfall per square metre is expected in some places.  Hail and strong gusts of wind will be our lot.

Code Orange is a warning for violent thundery showers that may cause local flooding.  Rainfall will be intense.  Hail and gusts may cause considerable material damage and flooding.  Lightning strikes and uprooted trees are among the possibilities.  Desist from taking to the roads if possible.
