A busy day at the airport

Friday 2 August is expected to be a busy day at the country’s busiest airport at Zaventem, just outside Brussels. Around 96,000 passengers are expected to pass through the airport with the early morning being especially busy. The airport is well prepared for what will be the busiest day of the year.

The airport’s spokeswoman Nathalie Pierard told VRT News that "When more than 90,000 passengers are expected at the airport we take measures to ensure that everything runs smoothly. We make sure that there is additional staff at important places such as at the customs, but also at information desks. This weekend there will be a lot of people travelling that only travel once a year and they can’t always find their way at the airport”.

Passengers are advised to come the airport well-prepared. They should arrive in good time and reserve a parking space in advance. Hand luggage should be checked to make sure that it doesn’t contain anything that can’t be taken aboard an aircraft.

The airport also advises passengers to check that their passport or identity card is still valid.  Ms Pierard told VRT News that a surprising number of people fail to do this.

Saturday and Sunday will also be busy. 83,000 passengers are expected on Saturday and 89,000 passengers are expected on Sunday.
