Motor cyclist dies after police chase

A motor cyclist has died after a police chase through the streets of Brussels. The chase started after the motor cyclist fail to stop for police in Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe, in the east of the city. He died after falling from his motor cycle, near to the Prime Minister’s official residence in the centre of Brussels. 

Officers from the Montgomery Local Police Service that covers the municipalities of Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe, Sint-Pieters-Woluwe and Etterbeek had wanted the motorcycle to stop in Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe. However, he drove on and a chase ensued.

He drove at speed towards the city centre. The daily ‘Het Laatste Nieuws’ reports that that the young man fell off his motorbike for a first time en route to the centre of Brussels but got back on again and continued his escape. However, at the crossroad of the Brussels inner ring road and the Lambermontstraat he fell for a second time and this proved fatal.

The Montgomery Local Police Service is refusing to comment on the incident due to the involvement of its own officers. Nevertheless, it has been confirmed that that the man died while he was trying to escape from the police.
