Draw for Anderlecht, victory for Antwerp

The last two First Division games of the weekend were played on Sunday evening. Sporting Anderlecht continued their disappointing start to the new season, only managing a goalless draw away at Excel Mouscron. Later in the evening Royal Antwerp FC enjoyed a convincing 4-1 home win against Waasland-Beveren.

After last weekend’s home defeat at the hands of KV Oostende, Vincent Kompany’s Sporting Anderlecht got no further than a goalless draw away at Excel Mouscron. The visitors played decent first half and created chances.

However, after the break they were unable to create anything remotely dangerous in front of goal. The draw leaves Sporting Anderlecht with just 1 point from their first 2 games. Excel Mouscron have 4 points.

Second victory of the season for Antwerp

Royal Antwerp FC made it 6 points out of a possible 6, winning their first home game of the season by 4 goals to 1. Waasland-Beveren proved no match for the Great Old. Dieumerci Mbokani (top photo) opened the scoring for Antwerp on 3 minutes.

Refaelov made it 2-0 from the penalty spot on the half hour. Waasland-Beveren pulled one back through Verreth on 3 minutes before half time to make it 2-1. This meant that there was everything still to play for in the second half.

Buta made it 3-1 to Antwerp on 50 minutes. When Mbokani scored his 2nd and Antwerp’s 4th goal of the evening on 68 minutes it was pretty much over and out for Waasland-Beveren. The result leaves Antwerp with 6 points from 2 games. Waasland-Beveren still have no points.
