Pedestrian killed as he tries to cross Brussels Orbital Road: motorway blocked for several hours

This morning, around 5.30 AM, a pedestrian tried to cross the Brussels Orbital Road in the Anderlecht area. He was hit by a car and died on the spot. A car that tried to avoid the first vehicle next hit a post of an arch displaying various road signs: the whole construction collapsed as a result, blocking the motorway in both directions. Traffic came to a standstill between Dilbeek and Anderlecht as southbound traffic was mostly hit. The disruption is expected to continue until noon, as removing the boarding turns out to be a tough job.

The victim, a 43-year-old man, had been admitted into hospital a few hours before for public drunkenness, the judicial authorities said.
