Last weekend, a tapir was born in the Antwerp Zoo. It's mother Nakal's third baby, and the 8th tapir to be born in Antwerp. In the video, the caretaker explains that the birth went smoothly. The calf remains inside for the moment, but may come out when temperatures will rise at the end of the week. "It's staying close to its mum to be sure it is safe". It is not clear yet whether it's a boy or a girl. Mayan tapirs are the biggest tapir species. They communicate by whistling to each other in various ways.
