Big Rom victim of racist chants by Italian fans

The Belgian international striker Romelu Lukaku became the victim of racial abuse from fans of the Italian First Division club Cagliari as he prepared to take penalty. Lukaku, who was a favourite  among fans during his years in the English Premier League, left Manchester United for Italian side Inter Milan during the closed season. Cagliari fans have something of a reputation. Sadly they lived up to this during their team’s home game against Inter.

However, despite the abuse directed at him by racist fans, he scored what turned out to be the winning goal in what was a 1-2 win for Inter.  Romelu Lukaku's goal ensured that Inter made it 6 points out of a possible 6 and have had a perfect start to the season.

After scoring the penalty Lukaku directed a disparaging look towards the Cagliari fans that had racially abused him moments before. The club that is home to the former Belgian international Radja Nainggolan has a bad reputation when it comes to racism. Other players including Moise Kean, Blaise Matuidi and Sulley Muntari have all suffered racial abuse at the hands of Cagliari fans.
