Ex Anderlecht manager Van Holsbeeck under arrest

There has been a further spectacular arrest in the police investigation into money-laundering and bribery in connection with transfers in Belgian football.  Former Anderlecht manager Herman Van Holsbeeck has been arrested.

Earlier in the week football agent Christophe Henrotay was detained in Monaco. This morning it was the turn of the former Anderlecht manager, who is being questioned as part of the investigation into financial fraud in Belgian football.

Federal prosecutors have confirmed the arrest and the link to Christophe Henrotay’s detention. Earlier raids were carried out at Anderlecht football club and the Belgian FA.  One transfer under investigation is Aleksandar Mitrovic’s move to Newcastle in 2015.

It’s the second time Herman Van Holsbeeck is arrested and questioned.  Earlier he spoke with detectives looking into financial fraud in Belgian football as part of the Operation Zero investigation linked to football agents Mogi Bayat and Dejan Veljkovic. At this time he wasn’t named as a suspect.
