Plenty of goals and lots of excitement as KV Mechelen take all three points from their trip to Kortrijk

In the first of this weekend’s Belgian First Division games, KV Mechelen enjoyed a 2-3 win away at KV Kortrijk. The match provided an entertaining and enjoyable start to the weekend’s football.

Nine minutes of madness early in the second half with three world class goals sealed it for KV Mechelen. These goals came just after KV Kortrijk had had a goal disallowed by the video ref for offside.

The first half saw KV Kortrijk dominate the game. KV Mechelen were all but invisible. It came as no great surprise when KV Kortrijk took the lead on 38 minutes through Stojanovic. The half ended 1-0 in the home side’s favour.

It could so easily have been over and out for KV Mechelen early in the second half had the video referee not disallowed Kagelmacher’s goal for offside. Having escaped going two-down, KV Mechelen pushed forward. Vanzier put the visitors level on 53 minutes. 4 minutes later Rob Schoofs (photo below) score a goal that Messi would have been proud of to put KV Mechelen 1-2 up. Vanzier’s second goal of the game on 62 minutes was also a sight to behold. With around half an hour left KV Mechelen were 1-3 up.

KV Kortrijk were given a penalty for hands by Corryn inside the box. Mboyo scored to make it 2-3 with around 10 minutes to go. KV Kortrijk were lucky not to concede a penalty at the other end after a foul by De Sart on Schoofs. The match ended 1-3. The result leaves KV Mechelen with 14 points from 8 games. KV Kortrijk have 8 points.
