Three apprehended in Melle after wild police chase

Three people have been apprehended in Melle (near Ghent) after a wild police chase that lasted about 50 kilometres. 

The chase began in Ingelmunster (West Flanders), where local police had stopped a car with Italian number plate. However, the driver managed to get away and reach the motorway. Reaching speeds of 200 kilometres per hour, he could only be stopped after 50 kilometres. The three people inside the car were arrested. It is not yet clear why they fled the scene.
