18-year-old woman dies in road accident in West Flanders

An 18-year-old woman has died in a road accident in the West Flemish municipality of Kortemark. The news that the young woman from Koekelare (also West Flanders) had died in the accident was released by the West Flemish Judicial Authorities on Friday night. The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident was taken to hospital in a critical condition.  

The accident happened at around 10:30pm on Friday on the Koekelarestraat in the village of Edewalle that is part of the municipality of Kortemark. The two cars collided at the road’s junction with the Pastoor D. Vanhautestraat and the Edewallestraat.  

The emergency services were at the scene quickly and were able to get the drivers out of there damaged vehicles. However, the 18-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The 38-year-old driver of the other vehicle was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Judicial Authorities despatched an accident investigation expert to the scene. The expert is charged with bringing clarity regarding the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
