Proud mum Hilde Crevits takes time out to watch her son tie the knot

The Christian democrat politician Hilde Crevits has taken a day off from the Flemish coalition negotiations to attend the marriage of her son Bram. Ms Crevits is currently the Flemish Education Minister and the Christian democrat’s Deputy Prime Minister in the outgoing Flemish Government. As such she is among a select group of politicians from her party that are involved in the Flemish coalition negotiations.

Ahead of the civil marriage ceremony in Torhout, West Flanders a relaxed Ms Crevits spoke of how proud she was that her son Bram and her new daughter-in-law Eveline were getting married.

While family and friends obligingly posed for photographs, Ms Crevits said that she didn’t want to talk about politics today.

"Today I just want to enjoy myself, no politics. From tomorrow I will be fully available for the negotiations again."

After the ceremony the family went on to a quiet lunch. Today’s ceremony was a civil ceremony after which the couple were legally married. Next year they will have a church wedding followed by a big party.

Ms Crevits told the local newspaper ‘Krant van West-Vlaanderen that "We had wanted to keep the ceremony low key, but that has been a big failure. But it’s no problem. Good news ought to be shouted out from the rooftops".
