“Peak predicted at end of March or beginning of April”

Virologist Steven Van Gucht says that a peak in the number of COVID-19 infections is expected at the end of March or the beginning of April.  He was speaking after a larger increase in new cases on Wednesday following slightly lower figures on the two previous days.

“The cautious optimism of recent days was encouraging.  The figures seemed to flatten out.  It made us happy because we hadn’t really expected that just yet.  Our models predict a peak at the end of March or the beginning of April.  We knew it was too early to speak of a downward trend.  Sadly, this has proved to be true, because we have seen the figures going up once again” says Steven Van Gucht, who is attached to Belgium's national security council.
