Belgian Rail teams paint the rails white in a first for Belgium

With the hottest months of the year coming up, Belgian Rail has painted part of the rails white in an attempt to avoid that rails would expand because of the heat. As rails are made from steel, they expand as they get hotter, and they can start to curve – which is known as 'buckling'. The Belgian rail infrastructure company Infrabel got the idea from Italy, but in Belgium it's just a pioneering project for the moment- and a first.
