A thousand voluntary fire-fighters needed

Several Flemish fire brigades are facing a lack of volunteers.  In all 1,000 extra voluntary fire-fighters are needed.  The demanding three-year training puts off many volunteers.  Fire officers also say remuneration for being on stand-by is low.  Interior minister Verlinden has already pledged to look at increasing the rate.
