4 million visitors at Brussels’ Winter Wonders

The 2023 edition Brussels’ annual end of year event Winter Wonders attracted around 4 million visitors. The organiser of the annual event that includes a Christmas market and other attractions such as a skating rink, the not-for-profit group Brussels Major Events, released figures on visitor numbers earlier on Wednesday.

The increased number of visitors came about largely due to a big influx of tourists. There were 20% more tourists at Winter Wonders 2023 than was the case at Winter Wonder 2022.

Between 24 November and 31 December 2,590,312 Belgians visited Winter Wonders. Foreign visitors to the event numbered 1,413,381. Most of these came from France, Spain and the Netherlands. As the figures only cover the period up to and including 31 December, they are in fact an underestimate of the true total as the event was extended to run until 7 January.

Meanwhile, Brussels’ hotels report a significant increase in occupancy in the period during which Winter Wonders ran. Between 24 November and 31 December 2023 an average of 68.3% of the capital’s hotel rooms were occupied. This compares with 59.4% during Winter Wonders 2022.

The 24th Winter Wonders will take place between 29 November 2024 and 5 January 2025.
